Appropriations Update

Appropriations Status

Fiscal Year 2012

The Budget Resolution (H. Con. Res. 34) establishes the overall level of discretionary spending for FY 2012 at $1,019.4 billion.  The Budget also provides for an additional $126.5 billion for the costs of the Global War on Terrorism.  Within these total spending levels, the Committee on Appropriations makes specific decisions on funding levels for specific agencies and programs.  The Appropriations Committee divides its work into 12 appropriations bills.  Funding levels for each of those bills is shown below.

The Budget Control Act established statutory caps on discretionary spending and mechanisms to exceed these caps for specified purposes, i.e. to fund the Global War on Terrorism, for disaster relief, and for program integrity initiatives. The cap under the BCA for 2012 is $1,043 billion.
