WASHINGTON—House Budget Committee Chairman Paul Ryan of Wisconsin released the following statement in response to the President’s remarks on the sequester:
“I’m glad the President agrees that we should replace the sequester. The House twice has passed legislation to replace these arbitrary cuts to our national defense with common-sense reforms. But the Senate has done nothing. And so far, the President has offered only rhetoric. We shouldn’t use the sequester as an excuse to raise taxes or to block tax reform. Instead, we should use this opportunity to cut spending and to budget responsibly.”
