Chairman Yarmuth Names Diana Meredith as Budget Committee Staff Director
WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, House Budget Committee Chair John Yarmuth (D-KY-03) made a staff announcement following the retirement of Ellen Balis, the Committee’s esteemed former Staff Director.
Chairman Yarmuth has promoted Diana Meredith to Staff Director. An 18-year veteran of the Budget Committee, she previously served as Deputy Staff Director, Budget Analyst for health, and Budget Analyst for income security programs. Before joining the Committee, Ms. Meredith worked at the White House Office of Management and Budget (OMB), handling Social Security and fiscal issues. A native of Washington state, Ms. Meredith worked as a newspaper reporter for several years in Seattle and the Napa Valley before coming to D.C. to work for the Senate Budget Committee. She holds a master’s degree in Public Policy from the University of California, Berkeley, and a bachelor’s degree in Communications from the University of Washington.
“With the elevation of Diana Meredith to Staff Director, the Budget Committee will benefit from her years of experience with the Committee, extensive knowledge of the budget process, and commitment to America’s working families,” said Chairman Yarmuth. “Diana will be a terrific Staff Director and I look forward to working with her as we fight for budget priorities that reflect our values and move our nation forward.”
On Ms. Balis’ retirement, Chairman Yarmuth added, “As a trusted aide both to me and former Chairs and Ranking Members, Ellen Balis has made a tremendous impact on the Committee and the lives of Americans, most recently with her essential work on the 2021 Budget Resolution and reconciliation process that delivered the American Rescue Plan. While the Committee will be sorry to lose Ellen from our staff, we are grateful for her decades of public service and wish her all the best in her retirement.”
