Chairman Yarmuth Statement on One-Year Anniversary of the American Rescue Plan
Washington, D.C.— Today marks one year since the American Rescue Plan Act of 2021 (H.R. 1319), a reconciliation bill sponsored and spearheaded by House Budget Chairman John Yarmuth (D-KY-03) to deliver President Biden’s American Rescue Plan, was signed into law. Chairman Yarmuth issued the following statement:
“One year ago, Congressional Democrats did everything in our power to deliver the lifesaving and life-changing relief in President Biden’s American Rescue Plan and thank goodness we succeeded. This historic legislation ensured we had the tools and resources necessary to tackle the pandemic, provide families with the support needed to make ends meet, expand equitable vaccine distribution, and get our economy back on track.
“Spearheading this transformative and historic legislation as Chairman of the Budget Committee will remain a highlight of my time here in Congress. This law saved lives and changed the course of the pandemic and our economic recovery. Because of the American Rescue Plan, we were able to help families stay in their homes and feed their children, help small businesses keep their doors open, ensure communities were not left behind in the recovery, and lay the groundwork for the record-breaking recovery we are experiencing now.
“Under the leadership of President Biden and Congressional Democrats, unemployment has dropped to its lowest level since the pandemic began and more than 7 million jobs have been added back to our economy. GDP growth is at a 40-year high, and wages are up. Make no mistake – this growth was not inevitable. Before the American Rescue Plan, our recovery was not projected to reach many these milestones until at least 2024. Clearly, we have made tremendous progress in a short period of time, and we aren’t going to slow down now.”
