Yarmuth Statement on Senate Trumpcare’s Long-Term Effects on Medicaid Spending

Jun 29, 2017

Washington, D.C.— Today Kentucky Congressman John Yarmuth, Ranking Member of the House Budget Committee, issued the following statement on the new report from the Congressional Budget Office, which found that Medicaid spending under the Senate Trumpcare bill would be 35% lower in 2036 compared to current law:

“Today’s CBO report underscores the long-term dangers of the Senate Trumpcare legislation. By cutting Medicaid funding more and more every year—until the program is reduced by more than one-third in 2036--states will be left with no other choices but to deny care, restrict enrollment, or strip funding from other priorities. On all fronts, it is a disaster for the American people.”
