Last week, the House Budget Committee introduced the FY 2018 Budget Resolution, “Building a Better America” and passed it out of committee with unanimous support from Republican members.
Groups from across the spectrum have praised Building a Better America and urged the full House of Representatives to support it.
U.S. Chamber of Commerce: “The U.S. Chamber of Commerce urges the swift adoption of the draft Fiscal Year 2018 concurrent budget resolution with reconciliation instructions to facilitate the passage of comprehensive tax reform…You and your colleagues in Congress have a once-in-a-generation opportunity to enact pro-growth tax reform, and that process begins with passage of the pending budget resolution.
The Chamber also commends the Committee’s focus on restraining spending and reforming our nation’s entitlement programs. Federal entitlement spending is on an unsustainable path, ultimately harming the economy and America’s long-term prosperity
Americans for Tax Reform: “As the vehicle for once in a generation, pro-growth tax reform, this budget resolution should be supported by all members of Congress… By including budget reconciliation instructions for tax reform, the FY 18 budget resolution is step one in achieving pro-growth reform.
By supporting the FY18 budget resolution, members of Congress can take an important step forward toward achieving tax reform in 2017. As such, all members should support this resolution.
Americans for Prosperity: “We’re encouraged to see House Republicans produce a budget that balances and includes mandatory spending cuts. We’re pleased to see progress toward structural reforms to the nation’s safety-net programs that will make them work better for the truly needy while controlling spending. Most significantly, we’re pleased that this budget resolution provides a vehicle for passing comprehensive tax reform that will lead to the fairer, flatter, and simpler tax code that works better for everyday Americans.”
Americans for Limited Government: “Committee Chairwoman Diane Black (R-Tenn.) has released a budget plan for FY 2018 that details major cuts to so-called mandatory spending, presents the tax plan President Donald Trump has boasted about, and reins in government waste. Finally, Republicans in Congress have the opportunity to show the American people comprehensive change is afoot, now they must simply act on it…Black’s budget could be a historic reduction and restructuring of the country’s excessive, so-called mandatory spending, but only if Republicans in Congress are prepared to fulfill their promises. Black’s budget balances the budget in ten years, cuts spending, restructures the tax code, reigns in government spending and all while maintaining defense spending.”
Committee for a Responsible Federal Budget: “Republicans have been calling for balance for years, and Chairman Black is to be commended for backing up her words with reconciliation instructions, a critical first step in achieving that ambitious goal… Chairman Black’s effort to use reconciliation instructions to require mandatory savings from various committees is an important action moment that could lead to real deficit reduction.”
Tea Party Patriots Co-Founder Jenny Beth Martin: “House Budget Committee officially approved 2018 budget on Wednesday that will cut $203B in spending!”
