Biden’s Budget: “An extreme show of disrespect for America’s working-class families.”

WASHINGTON, D.C. – House Budget Committee Republican Leader Jason Smith (MO-08) issued the following statement after President Biden released his Fiscal Year 2022 budget proposal:

“President Biden’s budget is an extreme show of disrespect for America’s working-class families. Under the President’s vision, Washington will seize greater command and control over the lives and livelihoods of American citizens. It will ignore how massive government spending will have Americans paying more to put food on their tables, gas in their cars, and clothes on their backs.

“This budget would take money out of the pockets of Americans through a higher cost of living while also raising taxes on the working class. And while it would borrow and tax to expand the reach of a Federal bureaucracy, it shortchanges the primary responsibility of government to protect the safety and security of American citizens and the homeland.

“Under the President’s budget, America would see the highest deficit in our history this year and more than a trillion dollars in deficits every year going forward. The President is proposing, by far, the highest sustained tax burden in American history, and with the massive growth in debt under his budget, Americans would pay more on interest on that debt in 2031 than we will spend this year to support seniors on Medicare.”

“The President’s plan shows an embarrassingly naïve level of confidence in the ability of government to successfully manage the lives of the American people. Such arrogance of power will do the most harm to the working class who can least afford to pay for the President’s radical agenda.”
