Budget Oversight Task Force Issues a Request for Information to Stakeholders and the Public

Today, the House Budget Committee’s newly created Oversight Task Force released a Request For Information (RFI) letter inviting comments from key government stakeholders, organizations, and the general public pertaining to fiscal accountability, transparency, and program integrity. The deadline to submit comments is December 31, 2023.
 
The letter, led by Oversight Task Force Chairman Jack Bergman (R-MI) and House Budget Committee Chairman Jodey Arrington (R-TX), states:
 
“If you or your organization is interested in improving government oversight, please share your specific solutions. Responses could address but are not limited to the following:

  1. Oversight over proposed or previously passed legislation, including but not limited to the Congressional Budget and Impoundment Control Act of 1974, the Balanced Budget and Emergency Deficit Control Act of 1985, the American Rescue Plan Act of 2021, the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act of 2021, the Inflation Reduction Act of 2022, and the Fiscal Responsibility Act of 2023.
  2. Oversight over the Office of Management and Budget, the Congressional Budget Office, the Department of Treasury, and federal government agency budget and comptroller offices.
  3. Oversight over government-wide improper payments and fraud.
  4. Oversight over executive actions. 
  5. Oversight over crises facing the nation and everyday Americans, i.e., inflation, crime, foreign policy, immigration, energy, and others.”


BACKGROUND

  
The Oversight Task Force was established within the House Budget Committee with the stated mission to ensure taxpayer money is being spent on integral issues that help the nation prosper and move toward a path of stronger fiscal standing.
 
Chairman Arrington appointed Congressman Jack Bergman (R-MI) to serve as the Task Force’s Chairman.

On October 24, 2023, the Oversight Task Force opened a Whistleblower Portal, creating an open line of communication for any federal employee or U.S. citizen with knowledge of inappropriate behavior or illicit activity in the budget space.
