WASHINGTON, D.C. – Yesterday, the House of Representatives passed the bipartisan H.R. 5301, the Eliminate Useless Reports Act of 2023, by a voice vote.
House Budget Chairman Jodey Arrington (R-TX), joined by original cosponsor Representative Glenn Grothman (R-WI), released the following statements applauding House passage of H.R. 5301:
Chairman Arrington's Statement on H.R. 5301:
“We have a responsibility to root out wasteful spending and reform our broken budget process. Both sides of the aisle have acknowledged more must be done.
The Eliminate Useless Reports Act requires federal agencies to identify duplicative and redundant reporting requirements, increasing government efficiency and slashing red tape. I applaud Rep. Grothman for his work on this important bill.”
Representative Grothman's Statement on H.R. 5301:
“I am proud to introduce this bipartisan bill alongside my colleague Robert Garcia (D-CA). By eliminating unnecessary reports, this bill will take a significant step toward improving government efficiency. This bill will lead to savings for taxpayers, ensuring that their hard-earned money is used more effectively to support essential services and programs.”
Background:
The warning signs of our nation’s unsustainable fiscal trajectory are flashing. With nearly $36 trillion in debt, it is imperative for Congress to enhance the level of transparency and accountability in the congressional budget process to ensure taxpayer dollars are being used responsibly.
H.R. 5301, led by Rep. Glenn Grothman and Rep. Robert Garcia (D-CA), will improve government efficiency in the budget process by eliminating the duplicative and redundant reports sent that Congress requires federal agencies to submit, saving taxpayer dollars and enhancing fiscal responsibility in Washington.
This legislation will direct agencies to submit to Congress a list of outdated or duplicative reporting requirements along with a recommendation to end or modify the report(s).
