House Democrats to Violate Law to Pave Way for $1.5 Trillion in Spending

WASHINGTON, D.C. – House Budget Committee Republican Leader Jason Smith (MO-08) released the following statement today on the House Democrats’ plan to include a resolution in a rule vote on unrelated legislation that will automatically establish $1.5 trillion as the discretionary spending level for fiscal year (FY) 2022:

“It has been nearly 900 days since Democrats became the majority in the House of Representatives and during that entire time they have failed to pass anything close to a real budget. Now Democrats are violating the law – specifically the 1974 Budget Act – by attempting to smuggle a resolution through the House that paves the way for a $1.5 trillion spending spree. It has become clear that Democrats have lost all interest in governing openly and transparently and are only interested in engaging in a partisan approach to ram through their radical socialist agenda. The Democrat Majority is chronically shirking their responsibility and abusing their authority. The American people deserve to have their representatives engage in an actual debate on the massive spending and debt that President Biden and Washington Democrats are pushing.”
