Smith: “Democrats just passed the wrong plan, at the wrong time, for all the wrong reasons”

WASHINGTON, D.C. – House Budget Committee Republican Leader Jason Smith (MO-08) issued the following statement after the House of Representatives passed the Senate Amendment to the Democrats’ $1.9 trillion bailout.

“These past few weeks Democrats have insisted on using a partisan process to pursue a political agenda when the focus should have been on America’s working class and combating COVID-19. Their plan prioritizes blue state bailouts and policies that will harm job creation and reduce employment. It comes at a time when America is already poised this year to have the best economic growth in more than 15 years – absent any new spending – and when nearly $1 trillion in already approved COVID-19 response funding remains unspent. At nearly $2 trillion in new deficit spending, the bailout bill will mean $36 billion in cuts to Medicare next year alone with additional cuts to come over the next decade. Because Democrats chose to prioritize their political ambitions instead of the working class, they just passed the wrong plan, at the wrong time, for all the wrong reasons.”
