Smith Statement on Democrats’ $3.5 Trillion Tax and Spending Plan
WASHINGTON, D.C. - Yesterday evening, Senate Democrats announced they had reached a topline agreement of $3.5 trillion for a massive tax and spending plan. House Budget Committee Republican Leader Jason Smith (MO-08) issued the following statement:“This is nothing more than a bait-and-switch. Joe Biden proposed $4 trillion in new reconciliation spending then claimed he would seek common ground with Republicans. Chuck Schumer and Bernie Sanders' so-called agreement is simply a repackaging of President Biden's original proposal to get a total of $4 trillion in spending. The very same day we find out that year over year inflation growth is the highest it's been in over 10 years, Democrats are proposing throwing trillions more of inflation fueled logs on the fire. This is one of the most out of touch celebrations I have ever seen. The political leaders in Washington and President Biden are failing the working class families who can least afford it.”
