Smith: “When it comes to paying for the bipartisan infrastructure bill, the math just does not add up”
WASHINGTON, D.C. – House Budget Committee Republican Leader Jason Smith (MO-08) issued the following statement after the Congressional Budget Office (CBO) released an analysis of the Senate’s bipartisan infrastructure bill:
“When it comes to paying for the bipartisan infrastructure bill, the math just does not add up. The Congressional Budget Office has confirmed what our analysis concluded earlier this week — the offsets in the bill will not fully cover what it will spend, certainly not what was claimed in the framework. They fall far short of the promises made. Americans need to know whether and how the federal government plans to actually pay for the full cost of the bill.
“We all agree infrastructure is an important investment, but it needs to be paid for —particularly at a time when Washington is spending at record levels and the government is over its debt limit.”
