Arrington: President Biden Must Focus on Nation’s Debt Crisis in SOTUWASHINGTON – House Budget Committee Chairman Jodey Arrington (R-TX), issued the following statement ahead of President Biden’s State of the Union Address:
“At tonight’s State of the Union, President Biden will tout a façade of short-term economic upsurge, but the American people are experiencing a very different reality: the state of our economy is anemic.
“States like Illinois and Nevada continue to be plagued by record unemployment rates; New York City has transformed into a war zone; and Americans confirm that they are worse off financially under President Biden.
“Meanwhile, dysfunctional supply chains saddle 1 in 5 families with food insecurity, making it difficult to purchase basic household items like eggs and paper products.
“I don’t want the President to fail because I want America to succeed, but more government and more spending will only deepen our economic problems and guarantee a sustained recession.
“President Biden has failed for the third year in a row to submit his budget to Congress on time. The message is clear: he does not want to be held accountable for how he spends taxpayer money, and living within your means only applies to the People, not the People’s government.
“We need reasonable and sensible solutions to our nation’s looming debt crisis. We must collectively address the debt limit as an opportunity to right the ship of our nation’s finances by reducing wasteful Washington spending at the same time.
“In the absence of true financial leadership over our nation’s runaway spending and unsustainable debt, House Republicans will put forth a responsible budget that reins-in spending, reduces our debt to GDP, and restores fiscal accountability in our nation’s Capitol.”
