Chairman Arrington on the Need for Commonsense Government Spending Reforms:
“If we don’t change course soon—and I think we have a generational opportunity to do that with the Republican trifecta and with the tool of budget reconciliation—then I think we not only undermine the economy and our future prosperity, but we jeopardize our national security, our children’s future, and America’s global leadership in the world.
“That’s why I refer to the almost one-quarter cut in the federal discretionary budget as a battle plan, because I don’t think it’s going to be bullets and bombs that destroy the greatness of America. I think it will be our insatiable appetite to spend and our lack of political courage to rein it in.”
Chairman Arrington on Preventing Waste, Fraud, and Abuse in Medicaid:
“In Medicaid alone, you have over half a trillion dollars over the last ten years that has been improperly paid, mostly overpayments and fraud but also billions of dollars in abusive payments. That is using U.S. tax dollars to give Medicaid benefits to people here in this country illegally, and it’s California and seven or eight other states. And it’s not just wrong, I think it’s horrible mismanagement of tax dollars. We spend more on illegal immigrants and the taxpayer funded services that they benefit from than we spend per Medicaid recipient who are U.S. citizens.
“We spend more on illegal immigrants and the entitlements that we allow them to avail themselves of than we spend on our veterans for their military retirement benefits. Medicaid is fraught with waste and fraud. It is horribly run...It’s really the Democrats’ tired old playbook of false narrative and fearmongering. And I don’t want my party to succumb to failing to do the right thing and the responsible thing and what's needed in this fateful moment on account of the fearmongering from our Democrat colleagues that is not true and not even remotely true. But that’s the MO, and we’ve seen it before.”
